Inez Jönsson's (b. 1989, Stockholm, Sweden) practice is centred around the very fundamentals of painting. Her appreciation and understanding of materials come from her own physical experience—she saws, weaves, dyes, threads, and paints each individual element. She approaches the materials, assesses them, and then unfolds and articulates what is otherwise obscured by the image. With careful, subtle disruptions, the individual materials become equal protagonists. Their former status is abandoned, transitioning into something unified, where medium becomes the ultimate goal.
Recent solo exhibitions include Sun upon your memory, Galleri Arnstedt, Östra Karup; Åke Andréns grant exhibition, Prins Eugens Waldemarsudde, Stockholm and Harvest Hair, Jönköpings Läns Museum, Jönköping. In 2019, she had her solo debut with the exhibition The Horsetail Sealed and Unsealed at Belenius Gallery, Stockholm.
Her works have been exhibited at Heerz Tooya, Veliko Turnovo (2023), the Embassy of Sweden, Tokyo (2022); The Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities, Stockholm (2021); Konstnärshuset, Stockholm (2021); Fullersta gård, Stockholm (2021); Falsterbo Konsthall, Falsterbo (2021); amongst others.
