Anton Funck Danish, b. 1992

Anton Funck (b. 1992) lives and works in Copenhagen, and is currently undertaking his MFA degree at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Visual Arts, Copenhagen, Denmark.

Funck's pictorial practice grows from a place of thoughts, experiences and observation. To collect memories, pebbles on the beach, to remember a person's face from the subway or the smell of someone's clothes. To notice the nuances of the light cast by the sun or to notice the seasons changing and how it can be utilized as a reference for an inner state. Perhaps it sparks a memory or maybe it reflects a certain mood?

His practice revolves around the mediums of watercolors, oil pastel, print and textile. Mediums that he utilizes to create detail rich images that depict micro universes of a sacral-like nature. He mainly paints on handmade paper, lime washed plywood and carves wood reliefs. Funck demonstrates an artisanal comprehension of mediums however he thinks of/views artistic execution as an expression of a lifestyle and as such he strives to treat the idea of having an artistic practice as more than to just make art for the sake of making images.

For the artist, the act of creating and life itself are universally/undeniably intertwined:

"To treat various mediums as seasons in life or milestones on the art-pilgrimage. A reference point on where you are in life and what you're drawn towards in the world. How you are drawn in the world.

Who and what do you need to seek out? And how does it shape your days? How does it consume your time? How does it consume your spirit and body?.

To observe how small changes and choices can create ever-growing rings in a lake of unknown width even when the choices laid out are "Ink or Graphite?"
