"This body of work dives deeper into my focus on light and shadow. The idea of solstice arrived as I painted the work thinking about the time of year during the exhibition and my own personal process as I painted it through various seasons and feelings. During solstice the sun is at various heights affecting light placement and shadow depending upon the season. I also resonate with the idea of the time of solstice being a rebirth of sorts linking light, energy, renewal to the female body and psyche and nature. Solstice is a metaphor for renewal, expressed through light and shadow. These paintings push the boundaries of the elements of light and shadow and their impact on the figure and psyche" - Bethany Czarnecki
